Geminid Meteor Shower 2024
Geminid Meteor Shower 2024
The annual Geminid meteor shower, one of the year’s highlights, peaks on December 13–14. Known for producing bright, colorful meteors, it’s typically a stunning celestial event. However, this year, a nearly full "Cold Moon" will overshadow the show, making it challenging to spot many meteors.
The Geminids, originating from debris left by asteroid 3200 Phaethon, appear to radiate from the constellation Gemini. While peak activity occurs late on December 13, the bright moonlight will hinder visibility. Observers may fare better a few nights earlier when the moon is less dominant.
If the Geminids leave you underwhelmed, don’t worry, the Quadrantid meteor shower in early January 2025 promises darker skies and excellent viewing conditions. It’s the perfect way to start the new year stargazing.
