Rafah Crossing to Reopen During Ceasefire Agreement

Egyptian media reported that the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will reopen on Thursday, following a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli Occupation. This crucial development comes after the crossing had been closed since May last year due to extensive damage from a large-scale Israeli military operation, which destroyed key infrastructure in the city of Rafah, including the crossing facilities.
While the reopening is a vital step for the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, Egyptian news site Cairo 24 noted that the specifics regarding the operational mechanism and duration of the reopening remain unclear. A senior UN official also pointed out that increasing the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza will require strong security measures to ensure effectiveness.
