Amman, Jordan – Jordanian singer Hiya returns to the music scene this month with her captivating new bilingual single, "Pedestal," after a nine-month hiatus. This release marks a significant reintroduction, capturing her emotional journey from betrayal to empowerment and clarity.

Hiya, a rising artist of Palestinian/Lebanese heritage, dedicates her music to every woman, especially those from the SWANA region. "I chose this name because it represents empowerment, individuality, and the celebration of women's voices," she explains. "It's a reminder to embrace our unique stories and cultures while breaking barriers through music."

"Pedestal," Hiya's second single, builds on the success of her debut track "Banadi." While "Banadi" conveyed the turmoil and pain she endured, "Pedestal" represents her transition to releasing that pain, letting go, and taking both herself and her listeners on a journey of vulnerability, realization, empowerment, resilience, and clarity.

Hiya continues to develop her unique sound by fusing Western genres with an Arab twist. "Pedestal" prominently features the traditional Oud, showcasing her Arab heritage within its two-and-a-half-minute runtime. The bilingual lyrics—English for clarity and empowerment, Arabic for vulnerability and authenticity—create a deep emotional bond with her audience through a raw and honest exploration of the human experience.

Despite its relatively short length, "Pedestal" is perfectly crafted to express exactly what needs to be said. It is an expression of Hiya's innermost thoughts and feelings, a testament to her ability to create songs with thematic depth that resonate universally.

"As an artist, as Yasmeen, and as Hiya, storytelling is the most important thing," she says. "With 'Pedestal,' I'm not seeking validation; I'm expressing my emotions and telling my story."

"Pedestal" seamlessly weaves Hiya's Arabic influences into its musical tapestry through both language and percussion. By playing with double meanings and authentically rooting the Oud within the song's core, she romantically underscores the process of letting go and the freedom associated with it.

"Don’t be afraid to let go of what was once pure and good. You will always find pure and good things and people in your life as long as you are authentic to yourself and your experiences. The moment you let go is the moment you make space for something new, or even a new you," Hiya advises.

Through "Pedestal," Hiya offers a beacon of hope and strength to listeners navigating their own hardships. By declaring her own self-discovery and empowerment, she triumphantly reclaims her narrative and encourages her listeners to do the same. "Pedestal is a part of my story, but it might help someone else break down their walls and come out stronger. The message I want to share through my music is: 'You are your own savior.'"
