Ireland has taken a significant step in its diplomatic relations with Palestine by appointing Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid as the first full Palestinian ambassador on November 5. Abdalmajid previously served as the Palestinian Head of Mission and will now assume the enhanced role as ambassador.

This historic appointment follows Dublin’s recognition of Palestine as a sovereign and independent state in May, which led to the establishment of full diplomatic relations on September 29.

In a key development on October 17, the Palestinian Authority formally requested the upgrade of Palestine's representation in Ireland to a resident embassy under the 1961 Vienna Convention. This move ensures enhanced protections for Palestinian diplomatic staff and reflects strengthened bilateral ties between the two nations.
