Located in the serene hills of Jerash, Al Ma'wa for Nature and Wildlife stands as a safe haven for animals that have endured trauma and hardship. Created through a collaboration between the Princess Alia Foundation and Vier-Pfoten International (Four Paws) in 2011, Al Ma'wa is not just a sanctuary but a long-term solution for rescued wildlife across the region. Whether it’s lions, bears, or tigers, Al Ma'wa provides these creatures with the space and care they need to heal and thrive.

The Purpose Behind Al Ma’wa

Al Ma'wa for Nature and Wildlife serves two key roles: the New Hope Centre in Amman and the Al Ma’wa Wildlife Reserve in Jerash. The New Hope Centre functions as a rehabilitation hub, offering veterinary care, quarantine services, and rehabilitation programs for confiscated or rescued animals. The journey for many animals begins here as they receive much-needed medical attention and rehabilitation.

For animals that cannot be released back into the wild or returned to their native countries, Al Ma’wa offers a permanent home. Spread over a vast area of 110 hectares, the Al Ma’wa Wildlife Reserve provides species-specific enclosures, ensuring that the animals live in environments that resemble their natural habitats. The reserve has rescued and rehabilitated a variety of animals, including lions, bears, tigers, and hyenas.

A Guided Tour of Al Ma’wa

Visitors to Al Ma'wa have the opportunity to connect with these animals and learn about their stories. The one-hour tour allows you to walk with a knowledgeable guide through the reserve, where you’ll witness the majestic rescued lions, bears, and tigers, each with a heart-touching tale of survival and resilience. The tour offers not just a chance to see these magnificent creatures up close, but also to understand the importance of wildlife conservation in the region.
